SÈVRES Pair of Medici porcelain vases of the third size, with side grips in the shape of a satyr mask on a gold background, polychrome decoration on one of a view of the Tancarville castle and on the other a view of the Dieppe castle in rectangular storerooms on a blue background, Gold rosette and foliated scrolls above the handles, on the reverse the gold legend in a gold laurel wreath, the edges decorated in gold with a frieze of posts, net and frieze of foliage, the square base with a background imitating green marble. Signed and dated in the landscapes: A. Poupart 1822. Marked under the base and inside: LL interlaced, fleur-de-lis, Sèvres 22, gilder's mark W in red, one also bears the gilding mark W in green: 21 August 21 and the gilder's mark EB 7 May. Metal hoop on the upper edge. Louis XVIII period, 1822. H. 41.5 cm Provenance: Offered in 1823 by King Louis XVIII to Marie Caroline, Duchess of Berri (1798-1870). This pair of Medici vases was presented to the public at an exhibition at the Louvre in January 1823. It was then chosen by King Louis XVIII and delivered by his order to his niece, Marie-Caroline, Duchess of Berri.
