ANGLETERRE OU FLANDRES, VERS 1750 BACCHANTE White marble, base in red marble from Languedoc and bronze Monogrammed W H. 36 cm, W. 61 cm, D. 28 cm Marble: H. 29 cm, W. 54 cm Provenance: Gallery Aaron in 1992 Collection A.Jerrold Perenchio, Chartwell House, Christie's sale 1-16 September 2020, lot 6 This bacchante is shown lying on a rocky mound covered with a drapery. She is leaning against a neoclassical vase covered with the skin of the Nemean lion and is holding bunches of grapes in her hand. This marble grouping comes from the collection of the powerful businessman and collector, A. Jerrold Perenchio (1930-2017). From 1986 and for 5 years, he led, together with the famous French interior designer Henri Samuel, the renovation project of his sumptuous Chartwell mansion in Beverly Hills to make it one of the most beautiful houses in America.
