TOULOUSE-LAUTREC, Henri de (1864-1901). Mademoiselle Marcelle Lender, in bust. 1895. Lithograph. Subject: 32.5 x 24 cm. Delteil 102; Wittrock 99. Colour printing. Very nice proof on cream vellum, of the French edition of "Pan" without the text typographed at the foot of the sheet, covered with the red-orange stamp (Lugt 1338) and numbered in pencil. Tiny light brown spots, tiny scattered rust dots. Small tear (hole) in the left margin, no lack of paper. Glue trace with brownish paper remains and small skin marks all around on the reverse side. All margins [58 x 40.5 cm]. Edition of 100 proofs. Rare according to Wittrock ("Among the feminine figures (...) in Lautrec's firmament, one of them deserves (...) a more particular attention, the actress Marcelle Lender, whom we see, in 1895, in Hervé's "Chilpéric" at the Théâtre des Variétés. Lautrec, according to the testimony of Romain Coolus, became a regular visitor to the show, which he attended more than twenty times just to be able to admire the actress's magnificent back. The lithograph in eight colours is dedicated to him and has been the subject of numerous studies now dispersed in private collections".
