PIERRE NICOLAS HUILLOT (Paris, 1674 - Paris, 1751) Still life with flowers Oil on canvas 108,5 x 163 cm Pierre Nicolas Huilliot belonged to a family of painters whose members succeeded each other at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. He was taught by his father Claude Huilliot (1632 - 1702), himself a still life painter, who had worked with Monnoyer (1636 - 1699) on the decorations of the châteaux of Saint-Germain, Versailles, Fontainebleau and Marly. He entered the Academy in 1721. Our painting is characteristic of the themes that would triumph under the reign of Louis XV, giving genre painting a prominent place in this first half of the 18th century. The Art of the Silent Life is a very fine example.
