Characterised by its large rectangular brushstrokes, this painting by Henri-Edmond Cross illustrates the artist's adherence to neo-Impressionism. Moving away from the scientific approach of Georges Seurat (1859-1891), the painter's style is more intuitive. The form of the brushstroke contributes to giving rhythm and balance to the composition.
