The Society of the Cincinnati, or Order of Cincinnatus, is the oldest American patriotic society, founded by George Washington on May 13, 1783, and composed of those who had distinguished themselves during the American War of Independence. Famous French soldiers were decorated with La Fayette, Rochambeau or François-Marie d'Aboville.
