Forty figures, China, 19th century
Folded fan, the double sheet of paper painted on a silver-colored background with 40 figures, each wearing silk clothing and an ivory head* in relief. The reverse side is made of purple silk and is painted with three cartels and two vases with 24 figures. Symbols of happiness adorn the border.
Mounting with alternating strands of blue and green enamelled filigree silver, natural ivory*, red-tinted and green-tinted ivory*, brown tortoiseshell**, sandalwood and white mother of pearl. Each strand cut and engraved with characters in bamboo.
The filigree metal plumes with flowers in relief.
Metal clasp and tassel.
