Ivory wire, China, circa 1780-1800
A very finely pierced ivory* fan of broken type, carved and engraved with a network of flowers, foliage and birds on which are placed three labels. On the sides, two views of gardens with a pagoda and pavilions. In the center, the interlaced figure of the recipient "JC" in a shield topped by a drapery. The top of the strands decorated with alternating flowers and birds. The plumes carved with flowers and a bat.
