Emile Gallé has been passionate about nature and plants since he was a child.
The marine world has always been a perpetual source of inspiration in the work of Emile Gallé.
Glass marquetry appeared in 1898 and allowed the glass artist to recreate his colourful visions of nature, sublimated by his imagination and his botanical research.
This theme appeared at the end of the 1880's and developed in the 1890's, intensifying at the dawn of the 1900 World's Fair and never ceasing to stimulate the artist's inspiration.
Generally, artistic pieces of this quality and technique were produced in very few copies.
Thus it is very likely that only six or eight models identical to this one were made by Emile Gallé.
The cup we present is rare on the market, it is to be brought closer by its form and technique of the vase-cup titled "The Source" dating from 1900.
