La Chasse au loup de Monseigneur le Dauphin, ou la Rencontre du Comte du Rourre dans les plaines d'Anet. Cologne, Pierre Marteau, 1695; pet. in-12, seeded calf, on the boards framed with a double gilt fillet and pearls, smooth spine decorated with gilt designs, red title-piece, gilt edges, [bound by C. Kalthoeber London], corners and spines very slightly rubbed. First edition of these memoirs on the thwarted love affairs of the Dauphin and the Countess du Rourre. Unsigned copper engraved frontispiece showing the Dauphin hunting. Remaining anonymous, these memoirs were presented as composed by "a Lady of the most intimate friends of the Countess du Rourre, who was one of the eyewitnesses of all that happened of more secret at her since the death of the Marshal of Luxembourg". Two small holes in the leather of the second plate. Slight foxing. A fine copy bound by Christian Samuel Kalthoeber (1775-1817), a German emigrated to London at the end of the 18th century, a respected and sought-after bookbinder (Oxford Reference), who influenced the generation of French neoclassical bookbinders, notably Bozerian. His label is stuck on the first white endpaper. Thiébaud, 176. Gay, I, 559.
