Islamic mortar with an animal head handle.
Cast bronze with engraving, remnants of a red paint finish, verdigris due to corrosion. Cylindrical, with console-like upper and lower rim. Circumferential, between engraved vines, two rows of three nups each. Similar vegetal ornaments around the rims. Casting defects in the base, ring eyelet lost. H 10,3, D 15,2 cm, weight approx. 4,1 kg.
Khorasan/Iran, attributed, 13th/14th century.
