Islamic mortar Cast bronze with engraving, spotty golden brown patina with calcification, remnants of a red paint finish and verdigris. Originally cylindrical, with a console-like upper and lower rim. Two rows of four drops or tears in relief around the rim, with engraved lotus bud motifs in between. A floral vine around the lower rim, cartouches with vegetal motifs on top, alternating with round medallions. The base slightly, the lower wall more concave hewn, with casting defects under the base and a rim breakout at the bottom. H 12,5, D 16,4 cm, weight ca. 3,8 kg. Khorasan/Iran, attributed, 13th - 14th century.
