A unique pair of museum caskets by Abraham Roentgen.
Rosewood, cherry and olive veneered on oak and cherry, brass, engraved, brass plated iron. Oblong box form with sloping corners, hinged lid and bow handle attached to the top. On the lid and the four sides fine diamond mosaic framed in rosewood. On the sloping corners in rosewood framed slanted veneers around inlaid engraved brass leaf motifs. Protruding, clearly set-off base on four curved rib feet. Cartouche-shaped and finely engraved lock fitting to be opened by means of a compression spring, the key guide behind it. A similar small inlaid brass cartouche on the front lid. Shallow secret drawer in the right base to be opened via a hexagonal push button in the right wall. Small, older filled shrinkage cracks, very good restored condition. With folded down hinged handle H 16,1, W 31,6, D 22,2 resp. H 16,2, W 31,8, D 22,1 cm.
