From 1924 to 1935 Lyonel Feininger spent every summer with his family in the small fishing village and seaside resort of West Deep on the West Pomeranian Baltic coast. Here he made numerous drawings and sketches of the place with its squat fishermen's houses and the sea with its wide sky that he loved so much. As is well known, even after his move to the USA, he looked back with longing on the earlier carefree summer months in Deep.
