Our drawing is preparatory to the painting Sainte-Geneviève-des-Ardents, one of the fourteen panels that decorated the chapel of the Hôpital des Enfants-Trouvés. The panels painted around 1748-49 were destroyed in 1874 at the same time as the hospital, to widen the square of Notre-Dame.
