Engraver and draughtsman, Ertinger was active in Antwerp, registered as a master at the Guild of Saint Luc in 1677/78. He then left to work in Paris as the King's engraver and travelled to Rome.
For our painting, Ertinger took the painting by Charles Le Brun, 1669, which is kept in the Louvre Museum.
