Olympus
Copper
Louis XIII period carved wood frame
Old sales label on the reverse of the frame (FRANCK, no. 55) and red wax stamp
65 x 45 cm
In our painting, the format, the composition (a diagonal spatial construction to increase the sensation of depth) and the figures with rhythmic gestures, taken from below, recall the works of Jacopo Zucchi preserved at the Uffizi in Florence, The Golden Age and the Silver Age (panel, 50 x 38 cm) and painted for the Villa Medici in Rome around 1575.
In our painting, the artist depicts the Olympian gods in a group, dancing or hugging each other on the banks of a stream.
