Minerva in a rocaille decor, part of a carriage
Laminated panel
64 x 89 cm
Restorations
Recent inscriptions on a paper on the back of the panel
Our painting is similar to the panels painted by Filippo Falciatore for the decoration of sedan chairs, around 1740 - 1750, where we find the same rocaille border on a gold background (see the article by Walter Vitzthum, Filippo Falciatore. Petit maître oublié du style rocaille à Naples, in L'Œil, January 1967).
The sedan chair consists of five panels: one in front, forming the bottom of the door, one on each side under the windows, and two larger ones behind.
