WALU DOGON MASK, Mali
Hard wood with brown patina, pigments, vegetable fibers, iron.
H. 64 cm
Walu antelope mask sculpted into a classical architectural face, the eyes open into two deeply set windows, the nose forming a partition. The mouth is schematic. Two twisted horns stretch the whole. Beautiful polychrome decoration of geometric motifs. The iron used to hold the garment has survived.
