Spear head, Vanuatu, Malekula Island Wood, basketry, smoke patina H. 35 cm Vanuatu lance head, Malekula Island H. 13 ¾ in Provenance: - Galerie Yann Ferrandin - French private collection Very beautiful spear head featuring two Janus faces, with angular, almost abstract features. The mouth stretches out, drawing a wide smile, the disproportionate nostrils are wide open, the forehead forms a visor, two lateral appendages symbolize the ears. The faces are covered with a slightly crusty black smoke patina. On the shaft, the cords that were used to hold the head of the spear in its wooden shaft are still in place.
