German painter, graphic artist and illustrator; appointed professor of graphic arts at the Weimar Academy of Fine Arts in 1913, he is credited with significant achievements in the reconstruction of the Weimar Academy of Fine Arts after the Second World War, he received the Nordgau Culture Prize of the city of Amberg in the category "Fine Arts" in 1953.
