Zwischengoldbecher Intermediate gold cup. 1799 (?).Germany.Signed.MILDNER, Johann Joseph(1765 Kaltenberg - 1808 Gutenbrunn) Colourless glass, cut decoration, etched intermediate gold foil, polychrome enamel painting.H 12 cm. Slightly conical cup. The cup has an inset medallion with a polychrome painted portrait of a gentleman, framed by an olive-cut wreath. On the back of the medallion the inscription, signature and date of the foil "Wahre Freundschaft macht Vergnuuml;gen, sie vertilgt die Eigenlieb, und thut ihren Feind besiegen, O! sie ist der schönste Trieb / Verfertiget zu Gutenbrunn im Fürnbergischen grossen Weinspergwald 1799 (?) von Mildner". Florally engraved intermediate gold border at the rim, on its reverse the inscription "Es leben ein jeder in der Welt, der Tugend liebt und Freundschaft hält, der dieses Kleinod hoch verehrt, der ist mir allzeit lieb und werth". In the intermediate gold base the engraved view of Gutenbrunn Castle with the inscription "Das Schloss der K K Herrschaft Gutenbrunn".1 edge defect. Provenance: South German private collection.
