Gabriel Puig Roda, 1865 Tírig/Spanien,- 1919 Vinaroz/Spanien Oil/canvas. Leisure of the Odalisques. Detailed composition with two harem ladies. The high room is lined with oriental tiles and precious tapestries. On a divan decorated with fabrics, two women are engaged in conversation, surrounded by musical instruments. This creates a distance to the viewer, which is further supported by the leopard skin lying in the foreground. This gives the viewer the impression of a secret glimpse into a harem. The outstanding quality of the picture lies in the luminous colouring, the detailed painting technique and a remarkable materiality. Signed "G. Puig" and locally inscribed "Roma" at lower right.
