Stele of Vishnu. Blackened stone. Northeast India, Bihar. Probably Pala period, 12th century.
Standing on a small double lotus base, the main hands missing, in the side hands club and chakra, the body richly adorned with a necklace, bangles, girdle and garland, on the head a kiritamukuta. Vishnu is flanked by Lakshmi with fly-wing on his right and Sarasvati with vina on his left (both heads missing), behind them a small figure each. On the prabha rising lions, ... apsara and at the top a lion mask. On the plinth a short inscription. Mounted on a wooden base.
