MERODE CLEOPATRE-DIANE DE: (1875-1966) French Dancer of the Belle Epoque. Regarded as the first celebrity icon, she was the first woman whose photographic image, by Nadar and Reutlinger, was distributed worldwide. A.L.S., `Cleo de Merode', one page, 8vo, Copenhagen, on the Hotel D'Angleterre in Copenhagen printed stationery, 31st October 1905, in French. Merode sends a close and warm message to her correspondent, stating `I am far from Paris and I learn today the misfortune that strikes you. I know how cruel it is to lose someone dear to you, and I want you to know that I pity you with all my heart.' With blank integral leaf.
