Tsogho Olifant, Gabon, end of the 19th century.
Ivory with a brown patina shaded in red.
Provenance :
- Jean de Cours (1887-1974), administrator of the colonies in Congo from 1907 to 1932.
- Transmitted by family descent.
Old olifant with a sober mouthpiece, the point pierced. At the back, suspension holes and a series of small notches. The patina of warm tone shaded red results from the long and slow passage of oils mixed with dye plants, magnifying the noble material that is ivory for traditional African cultures. Visible damages to the pavilion.
Nice age.
