In-8, blond basane, smooth spine decorated, double gilt fillet on the covers (period binding). A good copy.
Third edition, using the exact title of the original which was published in 1785.
Son of the dreaded police lieutenant of Paris, René d'Argenson, Louis-René d'Argenson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, could be a gentle dreamer who has been compared to the Abbé de Saint-Pierre. He was close to Voltaire and the Encyclopedists. (Cioranescu, XVIII, 8395.) Unidentified arms stamped in the 19th century on the centre of the upper cover.
