PITTORE DEL XVIII-XIX SECOLO
Landscape with Diogenes throwing away his bowl
Oil on canvas, 81X99 cm
The painting is a copy made from the original by Nicolas Poussin (Les Andelys, 1594 - Rome, 1665) in 1647 and now in the Louvre Museum. The scene depicts the story of Diogenes, the philosopher who, rejecting all worldly goods after seeing a man drinking with his hands, also throws away his cup. The importance of this work is due to the fact that it is a happy and very rare interpretation of the original from the Neoclassical period.
