FAUX-SAUNAGE. GALLERIES. 1682. BOURGOGNE & BRESSE: "Order of the King, to forbid the Cavaliers, Dragoons & Soldiers of his Troops, to commit False Convoying, on pain of Galleries. December 22, 1682. "... Most of the Soldiers of his Troops who are in garrison in his Places, do not allow themselves to go and take SALT in places where the Gabelle is not established, & to bring it, and to sell it secretly in those where it is in force, which, besides the license of the said Soldiers, turns to the prejudice & diminution of the Farm of his Gabelles...... Those who are accused of the crime of False-Salmoning will be condemned to serve His Majesty as Convicts on the Galleys for life..." Signed (print) by King LOUIS XIV, and below LE TELLIER. Followed by the Ordinance signed by Sieur BOUCHU Intendant in Burgundy and Bresse. (with autograph signature.) Done in DIJON (21) on January 24, 1683. The Ordinance will be carried out "and posted with the Castles of DIJON & AUXONNE, & in the Citadel of CHÂLON-SUR-SAÔNE. Placard (50 x 37). Condition B.
