The Annunciation, panel composed of four embroidered medallions.
Italy, first half of the 16th century, cloth background embroidered in full nude gold (2 threads) and in gold thread for the nimbus, in polychrome silk with split stitch for the face and chain stitch for the hair. The two central medallions represent the Archangel Gabriel holding a lily in his left hand and blessing the Virgin Mary with his right hand on a second medallion; on the right we can guess the Dove of the Holy Spirit. On either side, two other medallions represent an angel in prayer and a second one with his arms crossed on his chest.
Medallions applied on a green velvet background and embroidered with gold cordonet.
Framed, (some wear to the skin), 9,5 x 42 cm.
