MONSENGWO Kejwamfi dit Moké père (1950-2001, Democratic Republic of Congo), "Untitled", 1997. Acrylic on canvas signed on the left and dated. 151 x 203cm.
Certificate issued to Jean-Marie MOSENGWO ODIA, his son.
Moké is the precursor of the naive painting or the street, of the Congo. He is considered as one of the fathers of the Zairean popular painting for having realized in 1965 a painting representing the general Mobutu greeting the crowd on the occasion of the Independence Day.
His realistic and exuberant painting testifies to his meticulous observation of everyday life in Kinshasa: street scenes, sappers, neighbourhood disputes. Exhibited worldwide, his work was honoured at the Fondation Cartier in the recent exhibition "Beauté Congo" and is promoted by the Magnin gallery.
