TOSCAN RENAISSANCE CASSONA Florence, 16th century Stained and gilded walnut H. 75 cm, W. 175 cm, D. 60 cm Restoration and maintenance The elegance of this large wedding chest lies in its sobriety. The doucine lid is animated by a frieze of festoons in a dynamic that extends the two equally festooned rows, cut into the overhanging cornice. Underneath, the sides and the front are regularly divided, with gilded panels. The bottom of the mantel is adorned with a wide molded cordon decorated with gadroons and acanthus leaves at the corners. A shield surrounded by a rolled leather motif marks the frieze. The whole rests on four powerful lion paws.
