JOB (Jacques Onfroy de Bréville, dit)
[Mandolin Player]. Paris, 1878, folio drawing (54 x 32 cm), in pen and ink, with light highlights of color on some pieces of clothing, signed and dated (Paris - 1878) at the bottom right, in sheet form, framed in varnished wood, under glass. Large youthful drawing signed by the famous illustrator. Very finely executed with character and an already obvious dexterity, it represents a mandolin player in ornaments and "Italian" outfit. Probably one of the first and only preserved works of the young Jacques Onfroy de Bréville (1858-1931) whose acronym serves as a pseudonym and makes him known under the name of JOB. His signature is therefore the one that will not be seen again on his works. Aged 20 in 1878, he was then still in service in the army
