Spanish school of the second half of the nineteenth century. "Sculpture of Virgin and Child". Oil on canvas. Relined. Period frame, ca. 1850. Measurements: 65 x 81 cm; 78 x 98 cm (frame). The author of the present composition combines in an exceptional way the genre of the still life of flowers with the religiosity of the holy statuary. In the foreground is a bouquet composed of large flowers of purely baroque inspiration, so open and full that they seem to be about to wilt, worked with bright tones. The whole acts as a base for a large stone statue representing the Virgin and Child. The composition is framed in a wooded background, with trees of marked verticality.
