Pair of Vases; France, Napoleon III, nineteenth century. Gilt bronze and enameled earthenware Sevrés Bleu du Roi style and gilt, Measurements: 83 x 37 cm 8 (x2). Pair of vases featuring an ovoid vessel made of Sevrés Bleu du Roy style enameled earthenware and gilded ornaments. The rest of the ornamental elements that do not constitute the body and that are found on both vases, are made in gilded bronze, cast in relief mold and with cold chiseled details. They consist of a typically baroque base of smooth and lively artist, defined by lion claws, on which is placed directly the foot, composed of a bronze base with decorative plant elements, worked with the synthetic and refined style typical of the time. The bronze ornamentation stands out especially for the quality of the chisel work, which is reproduced with great expressiveness, especially in the handles. Over the ovoid shape of the body there is a long neck that forms the union with the vessel, ovoid following orientalist models. Orientalism was born in the 19th century as a consequence of the romantic spirit of escape in time and space. The first orientalists sought to reflect the lost, the unattainable, in a dramatic journey destined from the beginning to failure, for this reason they adopted aesthetic forms based on an idealized vision of orientalist culture.
