MODEST MORATÓ OJER (Barcelona, 1909-1993). "Christ in Majesty". Enamels, copper, stones and wooden base. Measurements: 39,5 x 39,5 x 4 cm. This representation presents the canonical iconography of Christ in Majesty, while the ornamentation is inspired by the style of the Romanesque workshops of the city of Limoges, France. Following Morató's usual style and technique, the use of polished and bright enameled colors stands out. The son of a jeweler father, Morató began very young in the art of enameling, first in his father's workshop and later as a disciple of Miquel Soldevila. He expanded his knowledge of the craft in a self-taught way, studying ancient techniques, both Western and Eastern. Imaginative and creative, he developed and applied enamel to jewelry, plafons, chalices, crosses, etc. He revived many techniques and invented others, such as enamel marquetry. He was a professor at the Massana School in Barcelona, and traveled to various countries researching the techniques and works of the great enamel masters of the past.
