Monumentale plastische Wandgestaltung von Peter Strang Wall decoration newly installed on a rectangular, black lacquered plate, consisting of hand-modeled, fully sculpted figures as well as maritime and vegetal forms. Large-scale scenic depiction of a female nude standing in the water while bathing, surrounded by large, towering reed tufts and a small frog sitting on a lily pad. Not far from a squatting young man watching the girl. Above applied blossoms as well as coral-like elements. Designed by Peter Strang with underglaze blue staffing by Heinz Werner, 1976. Incised artist's sign. with date "P. Strang (19) 76". Back. Mounting rails. Partly production-related burns and hairline cracks. Sword marks. Plate size 180 cm x 140 cm. Unique, figurative composition of a picture wall originally consisting of four different motif groups, which the sculptor Peter Strang produced together with his artist colleague, the painter Heinz Werner, for the former interior design of the café "Haus Altmarkt" in Dresden.Strang's thematic concern here was the "interpersonal". Heinz Werner "s underglaze blue decoration on a white porcelain ground skilfully underlines the picture design and at the same time emphasises the plasticity of the figures and elements by means of light and dark colour nuances. Many wall decorations made of Meissen porcelain, which were used to decorate the interiors of public buildings, businesses and hotels in Dresden, Meissen, Weimar or Berlin, are no longer installed at their original location today due to demolition, conversion or renovation work, are no longer preserved or have disappeared or changed hands. The porcelain ensemble, which was subsequently mounted on a wooden panel, corresponds in structure to the original composition. As an object created in the workshops of the Meissen State Porcelain Manufactory, it is unique in form and painting. Cf. Beyer, Wandbilder-Bilderwände, Meissener Manuskripte, XVII, ill. p. 69. Provenance: Café in the "Haus Altmarkt" in Dresden. A monumental porcelain wall decoration modelled by P. Strang and decorated in underglaze-blue by Prof. H. Werner. Production-related firing and haircracks. Crossed swords marks. Meissen. 1976.
