Fritz Overbeck Im Schluh 1896 Oil on cardboard 32.4 x 45.1 cm Framed. Scratched '2/8' into wet paint lower right. Verso dated and inscribed "Juli 1896" and "Nr. 32 Im Schluh" in handwriting. - In fine condition. The corners faintly bumped. Provenance Graphisches Kabinett Kunsthandel Wolfgang Werner, Bremen (gallery label verso), acquired there in 1978; Private collection, Berlin The piece of land known as “Im Schluh” lies near the old centre of Worpswede; when this work was created, it was a barren area that was overgrown with heather and contained day pits. Since 1920 it has been the site of the farmyard architectural ensemble “Haus im Schluh”, which was founded by Martha Vogeler and is now a museum which presents the work of Heinrich Vogeler to the public.
