50-Nevers (probably): Basket-nest with two handles out of earthenware with the imitation of the basketry. Polychromy of great fire yellow, brown, green, manganese simulating a decoration said in the natural. Probably used to support a zoomorphic terrine in the shape of a hen (not present). Period: end of the 18th century. Condition: star at the bottom of the basket and one handle restored. Chips and chips. Size : 39 x28.5 cm. Remarks : This basket is to be compared with the "egg dish" in the shape of a hen called "couvisse" attributed to Nevers around 1780 and found in the collections of the Auguste-Grasset museum in Varzy and published by Mr Jean Rosen in "La faïence de Nevers 1585-1900. Tome 3 ", page 292. The basket presented here could perhaps correspond to the display of this hen! (LL)
