A set of nine blue and white 'Acupuncturist' cups and saucers, Kangxi period, ca. 1700, China, An erotic pattern that is only known to exsist on cups and saucers, and often referred to as the Acupuncturist pattern. This set consists of nine saucers and ten cups. Not marked. Saucers: D 11 cm, Cups: D 7 cm, H 4 cm, A similar cup and saucer are in the Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam) and illustrated and discussed on page 113 of 'Chinese ceramics in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, The Ming and Qing Dynasties' by Christiaan J.A. Jörg. Rim frits and chips as usual. Three cups and two saucers with hairline(s), all other pieces with no hairlines. No restoration. One saucer with kiln dust in the glaze (manufaturing flaw, see close-up photo). One saucer has a different border design.
