English tortoiseshell and ivory tea caddy - 19th Century
tortoiseshell veneered, of rectangular shape with a stepped base resting on four bun feet; hinged lid concealing two lidded compartments, with carved elephant ivory elements (Loxodonta africana Blumenbach, 1797 or Elephas maximus Linnaeus, 1758). Height x width x depth 12 x 20 x 12.6 cm. Weight 516 gr. Item condition grading: **** good. Accompanied by Ce.S.Ar. Centro Studi Archeometrici certificate of authenticity (pre-1947).
