Toskanischer Maler des 16. Jahrhunderts THE HOLY FAMILY WITH ANGELS Oil on wood. Partly parquet. 117 x 91 cm. In gilded magnificent frame. Against a dark background the seated Mary in an old pink robe with greenish cloak and headdress, holding in her lap the sleeping boy Jesus lying on a cushion and clothed only with a white cloth around his waist. Lovingly she has fixed her gaze entirely on the sleeping with reddish chubby cheeks. To her right is Joseph in an old pink robe, a tanned face and a full grey beard, looking earnestly at Mary with his dark eyes. On the left behind Mary two standing angels with large wings, in noble robes, their gazes completely concentrated on Mary and the child. In addition, a narrow nimbus is visible around the head of Mary and Joseph. Painting in harmonious restrained colouring, the sitters emphasized by their lighter clothes especially against the almost black background. Scattered rests, minimal retouching.
