Gilliam Forchondt, tätig um 1645 – 1677 JESUS AS A GARDEN BEFORE THE KNEEING MARIA MAGDALENA (NOLI ME TANGERE) Oil on copper plate. 43.5 x 64.5 cm. Signed lower right. Enclosed an expert opinion by Dr. Klaus Ertz confirming the artist's own hand. Depiction of the scene according to the Gospel of John, chap. 20, 11-18. The two main figures set in a wide landscape, in the middle ground a well-tended garden, on the right the burial cave with the stone pushed aside, in front of it three figures. At the back left in the valley the imaginative reproduction of Jerusalem with the temple. At the back right, Calvary with the three crosses still erected. The painting of high quality. According to Fred G. Meijer the figures are by Willem van Herp, for the still-life arrangement with fruits and vegetables in the lower right corner Jan Brueghel the Younger is mentioned. Rest. (repaired crease) and partially added at the upper edge of the picture.
