Giovan Battista Recco, um 1615 – um 1660, in Zusammenarbeit mit Giuseppe di Guido, genannt „Meister von Fontanarosa“ KITCHEN STYLE LIFE WITH BRASS AND COPPER VESSELS AND TWO SERVINGS Oil on canvas. 118 x 174 cm. Unframed. Attached to the painting is a letter from Nicola Spinosa dated March 2020 - in connection with the completion of the catalogue raisonné - confirming the two named painters as the originators of the painting, with an indication that the work can be dated to the early 1630s. The highly qualitative painting is laid out in an emphatically large format. The objects are juxtaposed in a calm order, illuminated from the left, which brings out the metallic sheen, against the completely dark background. In the background two servants, behind the large-format kitchen utensils, rendered only in half-portrait, facing each other. The figure on the left of the picture is shown in an oblique posture with a beard and a bright white, turban-like headscarf, with which the painter sought to achieve a deliberate brightening in the picture. The figure at the right edge of the picture is rather shaded, wearing a red cap and a grey-green jacket. In the combination of the two genres, genre painting and still life, the latter predominates here, with the metal objects reproduced in emphasized size, such as the tripod kettle on the right with a beak jug set in it, the lying shiny bucket in the centre of the picture, and the copper and brass kettles with plates and cutlery as well as a copper lid in the left part of the picture. In addition to the extremely skilful rendering of the gleaming metal effects, the painter has also placed in the picture a large glazed earthenware jug, which the servant on the left of the picture is embracing, with dark green, brown and reddish speckled ceramic glaze. Undoubtedly the artist was aiming here for the highest degree of painterly skill in depicting metallic luster. In the sense of this genre specialization, the collaboration of the two painters mentioned can be seen in the present painting, whereby the part of the still life can be attributed to the painter Giovan Battista Recco, while the figures were created by Giuseppe di Guido, whose overall work here also lies predominantly in the rendering of the corporeal, as shown, for example, by his famous painting of "Saint Jerome", c. 1620/40. A.R. Giuseppe di Guido (b. c. 1590) was active in southern Italy and Naples in the years between 1620 and 1640. (1291471) (11) Giovan Battista Recco, ca. 1615 - ca. 1660, in collaboration with Giuseppe di Guido, also known as "Master of Fontanarosa" KITCHEN STILL LIFE WITH BRASS AND COPPER VESSELS AND TWO SERVANTSOil on canvas. 118 x 174 cm. Unframed. Accompanied by confirmation letter by Nicola Spinosa dated March 2020 regarding the attribution to the artists and dating the painting to the early 1630s in connection with the catalogue raisonné. The painting is of large landscape format and executed in high quality. The items are placed in order next to each other and lit from the left, which especially highlights the metallic sheen against the dark background. With regards to the specialization in this genre the collaboration between these two artists is revealing whereby Giovan Battista Recco painted the still life and Guiseppe di Guido the figures, who focused predominantly on figural paintings in his ouvre as for example the famous "Saint Jerome", created ca. 1620/40. Giuseppe di Guido (born ca. 1590), active in Southern Italy and Naples between 1620 and 1640.
