JOSÉ BELMAR MARTÍNEZ (Alicante, 1945-2013). "Composition". Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower right corner. Measurements: 54 x 64 cm; 77 x 89 cm (frame). He was a painter who breathed freedom, and that was not pigeonholed by all this in any artistic movement. And only if he was asked, he would perhaps recognize some influence of the master of masters, the Alicante-born Emilio Varela, although his paintings moved more by expressionism, and not so much by the poetic echoes of Varela. He studied drawing and painting at the Escuela Oficial de BB.AA de San Fernando de Alicante. He has worked as a professor of plastic arts at the CAM and at the Fontcalent Penitentiary Center and has been doing this work in a private academy since 1970 until now. He has also been director of the art program "Luz Verde" on Radio Antena 3 and founder of the art collective "Espardenya".
