DUMAS père Alexandre (1802-1870). 10 L.A.S. "AlexDumas", [1842-1856] and n.d.; 12 pages in-8 or in-12. To Jean-Baptiste PORCHER (1792-1864, theatrical agent and banker to playwrights), and to Madame. - June 1842], he sends him a drama to be "secretly read to Frederic" [Lemaître], and charges him with various financial commissions to pass on, through the banker Lego, 1750 F to Florence. "If you see Goubaux, ask him about Made de Sommerville. I would like to get this second piece out of the way very quickly. He asks him to send him to Bastia "some details on the number of performances of Cromwell, and on what has been played about me since I left"... - On the subject of Marc-Fournier, director of the Porte Saint-Martin, and his mistress Isabelle Constant: "I would overlook many things if Isabelle were to stay at the Porte St Martin and remain there under suitable conditions. These conditions would be her renewed engagement for one year and 3600 F of salary per year. [You know my position with Hostein with regard to the Lady of Montsoreau"... - He asks her for "a small jar of pickles", and recommends "a good boy who has talent and a lot"... - To Madame Porcher: "I am so poor that knowing you are as poor as I am, I beg you to give me a small voucher of 200 francs [...] we are penniless at home"... - As I leave everything I do in Paris to my creditors, and as I live here on a tenth of what I earn, I still need you to give me everything I need in return.
