SAVOIE (Christian of France, duchess of). Letter signed with 4 autograph words, addressed to her daughter Henriette-Adélaïde of Savoy, duchess of Bavaria. Turin, September 22, 1657. 1 p. folio, later handwritten notes in ink and pencil on verso. "My daughter. I am requested by count Maffei to intercede with you a letter of recommendation in favour of doctor Jaques-Antoine Guerra by which you recommend his person & his interests to Mr. bishop of Trent. You will be pleased to grant it to him and to believe me entirely, my daughter, [from the hand of Chrétienne de France:] v[ost]re affectionnee mere Chrestienne... " Giacomo Antonio Guerra would be appointed "prefect" of Trent by the local prince-bishop, Carlo-Emanuele Madruzzo. The episcopal principality of Trento included Italian and Bavarian territory. DAUGHTER OF HENRI IV AND MARIE DE MEDICIS, SO SISTER OF LOUIS XIII, CHRISTINE DE FRANCE was duchess of Savoy from 1630 to 1637, by her marriage in 1619 with Victor-Amédée Ier, then exercised the regency, from the death of this one in 1637 to 1648, in the name of their son Charles-Emmanuel II who married in 1663.
