VICTOIRE (Victoire de France, called Madame). Autograph letter signed. S.l.n.d. 1/3 p. in-8. "I am very annoyed, Sir, at all the rambling that was done to you this morning at my house so that you did not bother to come back. I am sending you the memorandum I intended to give you, and as I have to talk to you, I beg you to come back to my house when your business permits...". The recipient of the letter has indicated in the upper margin that it is a matter of requested gatekeepers. RARE LETTER FROM ONE OF THE DAUGHTER OF LOUIS XV, whom he affectionately nicknamed "Coche" in reference to her stoutness. Remaining unmarried, she remained very close to her sister Madame Adélaïde: the two women were always hostile to their father's mistresses, notably the Marquise de Pompadour, and were the only survivors of their siblings when the Revolution broke out. Authorized by the Assembly to leave France in 1790, they took refuge in Italy where they had to flee several times before the advancing revolutionary troops. Madame Victoire died in emigration, in Trieste, in 1799.
