ivory decorated with friezes of faceted steel pearls, inlaid on the lid with an oval medallion circled with gilt metal with the portrait of Joseph II (1741-1790), Marie-Antoinette's brother, in Austrian uniform, painted on mother-of-pearl and with white stone highlights, under glass. Inside lined with tortoiseshell. Slightly missing and worn.
18th century, circa 1775-1780.
