Pair of Cherubs; Spain, XVII century.
Wood.
Preserves the original polychrome.
They have visible faults in photo.
Measures. 23 x 44 x 12 cm.
Pair of ornamental carvings in high relief, representing two cherubs of which we see only the infantile head, flanked by the wings, as it is usual in this type of representations. In the rear area there is no ornamentation, but the wood remains exposed, which confirms that it would have originally belonged to a larger sculptural group, probably an altarpiece. Both pieces represent the same subject, are worked in a similar way, preserving the same face and facial expression. However, the two faces are directly inspired by the models of the classical "putto", a child with regular features, broad forehead, small nose, large cheeks and wavy hair.
